The race is scheduled for February 16th, 2008, Reiter Trails, Gold Bar, WA.
NOTE: race will NOT be staged from usual location. Instead, take a left immediately after the first parking area on Reiter road and follow to the open area under the power lines. There will be orange/black areas marking the direction.

Erez – I think your BC ORV tags will be fine, that and a Spark Arrestor on your bike. You do not need a competition license unless you plan on competing for points in the NMA series.
This may be part of the PNWMA (?) (Canadian Series too….)

Heather, ‘Frostbite” is just the name of the race (hare scramble). Called that as it is held in February and it usually cold.

Any info on what type of course it will be? I live up in Vancouver, BC and have heard lots of conflicting info. Some say 80% moto track with 20% trails and some say 100% trails and super technical. Any info on terrain type and bike setup (ie tire choice) would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Looks like fun, but perhaps too cold for east side riders.. lol
was wondering for the muddy conditions if tire screws/studs are allowed.
NMA Rules do not allow spikes at off road events.
Michelin S-12′s if there is still snow…. rear trails tire if the snow melts..
I’ve heard there is still quite a bit of snow in the Reiter area. I’m assuming you’ll look at conditions as the 16th get closer, but will you still plan on holding the event if the 1-2ft of snow is present?

the race chairmen is going to evaluate conditions this saturday and determine if the event needs rescheduled.
Still wondering what the verdict is for the Frost Bite…? Going crazy not being able to ride cause the snow.

The race chairman will be up to Reiter this weekend to check conditions and will most likely make the decision on Monday wether to postpone or not.
Hey there, just wondering if there is any camping availble up there the night before, and possibly two nights before the race.
Leanne – Yes you can camp there, there will not be arrows up till Friday pointing you top the staging area. The road into the staging is not for the weak of heart with an RV but most of us do it… a stream crossing and a lot of rocks!
Word is Snohomish County sherrifs will be there checking all your tabs and S/A’s along with DNR.
Make sure your legal!
I’ve gotta few friends that have never raced. Is the entry fee $40 for first time C class riders? How long is the loop?
Can we have a definate answer for the Canadian guys regarding requirements please. In British Columbia, dirt bikes are not licensed, we do not have ORV tags.
The quiet muffler and spark arrestor is easy to do, but I do not want to drive 3 hours to the race only to get turned away for no ORV tag (or some other requirement!).
If you could please let me know, I will pass the info on to other Canadians.

rob, the race chairmen spoke with the sheriff who will be enforcing ORV tags and the sheriff will permit canadian racers to race without WA orv tag. I assume you may need your identification used when you came across the border in place of ORV tag. Further, he will be only allowing you to ride during the scheduled event, riding day before or after will result in a ticket.
bronson, the race is definitely on! weather is warming up so should be great time!
brett, entry fee is same for all riders. we do not have exactly mileage for the course. short course will ride for aprox. 1.5 hrs, long course 2.5 hrs. It will feel like double that so you’ll get your moneys worth!
Hoping to get an estimate of the loop length. I’m trying to decide if two newbies to the sport will be able to have a good time at this race. Currently, conditions sound sub-optimum at best. If the loop is relatively short, at least they aren’t far from somebody. They are young, and this may not be the best race for them. Any help greatly appreciated.
So this thing will be started out of the upper staging area? Trying to find out if I want to take my 31′ class A and 14′ trailer or just stay in a motel. Would rather take the M/H but with the post about the stream crossing I’m concerned. Was told over on Thumpertalk the lower staging area is OK but the upper might be tough.
Mike – I have seen rigs that big before up there, a couple of our members actually bring in their 5th wheel toy haulers behind Peterbuilts! There is enuf open space so that you can turn around once your in and thats what I would do first thing is to turn around and set up with your rig pointing out the way you came in so when you leave you don’t have to jockey around all the other campers… the biggest thing is ground clearance it’s nice to have a spotter to make sure you don’t snag your dump lines on a rock.

Brett – there will be sweep riders on the course that can help and hopefully make sure everyone has fun but it is a typically a tough race and will definitely leave them with a sense of accomplishment!
Mike – I almost forgot, as you get down the access road a ways there is a 90 deg LH turn and directly to the right there are a few sites that will accomodate you. If they are not already taken, that gets you pretty close to the staging area without crossing the creek but they will likely be taken by Friday afternoon…
Well the motorhome is taller than most and I guess I do have jacks and blocks. If the pass looks good I’l give it a shot. I’m coming over from Tri Cities. Otherwise I guess it’s a night in Sultan and bring the heater for the trailer!
Oh, also is the stream deep with the melting snow? 1′ isn’t too big of a deal but much more I’ll be worried.
When it says sign-ups at 7:00am does that mean it opens at 7:00am and coming at 8:30am is okay or do we have to be there that early?

Depends on when your race starts, if you are racing shortcourse I think that starts at 9? (I don’t have the flier infront of me) but 8:30 would be cutting it close. If you race the long course later in the day you are probably fine.

Hey I rode there last year in a rainstorm with Kevin Bailey and Phil Stevens and it was Hell! But I say that in a good way. It has some seriously good stuff up there. Anyone who races there will leave being a better rider. PAMF!

I had a PNWMA lic last year but don’t have one this year yet. Is it safe to assume that I can pick one up down there since this is the first PNWMA points year this year.

Went on the frostbite today……… You are sadistic people and I’m tellin’!!!! Had fun fo sho!!! Cracked a rib fallin’ in the snow section on the handle bar but,,,still had a good time even tho I could only do one lap because of the pain…. Evil people I tell ya EVIL!!! LOL!!
Thank you for putting on the Frost bite this year. Had a great time in your Country, you have a awesome place to ride. Event was very well run, lots of workers to help out on the harder sections was appreciated.
Two laps was all my poor body could take. Great way to kick off the 08 race season. Thanks to all the volunteers for all the hard work that was done to put on this race.
Awesome race – gnarliest I’ve done – Thanks to Jerry Allen and the other club member (I’m sorry I didn’t get your name – & there were others who asked if I was ok – very nice) for stopping and helping me get bike off the cliff – thanks especially to the quad rider w/the winch – if it weren’t for him my old KTM might have become a permanent fixture @ Reiter. For what it’s worth I loved the AA downhill and am glad it was used for the short course. I’ll be back but I think, after this, I’ll pass on the right when there is a drop off on the left!
I have two teenagers that are just starting out dirt bike riding. They have Yamaha 125s. Are there good beginner trails at Reiter? I’ve heard there’s also a place in Mount Vernon. Can you give me any info about which would be better for beginners? Thanks for your help.
Cindy, Reiter probably has more open areas than Walker Valley does that will allow them to get comfortable on the bikes before hitting the trails. Both areas are nestled in the western slopes of the cascades and the terrain can be challenging but if they ease their way into it and enjoy it, both areas will make them very good riders.
Because Reiter is not officially a sanctioned ORV park, the trail signage is not very good but if they start on trails that are wide enough for quads and jeeps they will be fine and then they can venture onto the single track when they are ready. Most people you find up there will be very nice and more than willing to point you in the right direction.
That drop off the rock into a hairpin right turn up on the hill was the worst. The bottom of my new bike is gonna need alot of touch-up paint.
I just rode the frostbite race at reiter and I’m looking for 3 girls to help me make a team for the buttstomper in July. I was 2nd place in womens C so your not going to see me on any videos or espn
but I’d really like to be part of a team and ride this event for fun.

Alecia – Congrats on your 2nd place! I may be up for a team at the Buttstomper depending on how this summer goes. Usually I race the 200B class, but didn’t race the Frostbite this year due to other commitments. That would be really cool to get a womens team together.

Alecia – Sounds good!
Don’t let Alecia fool you, I just rode 6 hours with her at Reiter on Thursday March 6th. Couldn’t do the Frostbite with them as I was nursing a broken thumb. Her husband Doug Smith (who placed fifth in class with 4 laps) Alecia and I rode hard all day and she can flat out get it done!!!! If not for her help on some of the trails I might still be there. She will impress even the most experienced riders with her “can do” attitude. Thanks for the ride….. Jason
Sweeping all day I came across Alecia a couple times, always with a ear to ear grin on her face… she was having fun and it showed. I only have one suggestion, and I hope I’m right in thinking I remeber you but she was on a small Honda (CRF 100 or 150?) anyway we had to pull it out of deep rut once and I’m sure Alecia had it well under control but I just happened to be there so I helped but back to my suggestion – If this was Alecia, get on a bigger bike and then you will flat out haul the mail, you’ll be ready for B class or better I’m sure of it!

Okay yes I was on a XR 100 and thankyou Don for getting me out of the rut. I fell into a mud hole that was waist deep and struggled holding my bars with muddy gloves and couldn’t grip my tank with my slimey muddy pants which made it soooo hard to stay on my bike and I was pooped out by the time Don found me stuck in the rut.
I believe I also saw Don when I went the wrong way on the trail. I do have a bigger bike, I’d never been to reiter before and I knew that with my xr I may not be fast but I will definity finish .. eventually.. I rode my Kx 100 at reiter yesterday with my husband and friend Jason. So much nicer to know the area a bit have more supension, ground clearance and some more go. A beautiful day less water and snow. It was awesome, Thanks again for the fun, and the help… what an adventure. 
oh and those of you considering the desert 100 poker run and race… I did the entire poker run 2 laps and then the race the next morning on my xr 100 by myself ( my husband and I rode separately ) and completed both. I’d only been riding about a year and again, I wasn’t fast but I did finish. I Was really happy to see the man that was about a mile before the finish of the race… I was sooooo tired with and didn’t know how much farther I had and I asked him and he said about another mile… I could’ve kissed him. It was just a blast to participate in. I look forward to that again this April.
I agree with Alecia!! We are all looking forward to Desert 100, besides 100 miles at Odessa has to be easier than 40 miles at Goldbar. I am convinced that if you can Reiter you can ride ANYWHERE. I thought we had some technical stuff in the Olympics, but the Cascades are about as good as it gets for single track. Keep the rubber side down…….JD
