The Infamous Stumpjumpers Desert 100
Since 1969 when this annual race began, the Desert 100, once known as Mattawa, has been the most prestigious off road race of the year. On Sunday morning the air is buzzing as 1000+ racers prepare to compete in the weekend finale. Riders of all ability levels will position across the longest start line in North America and await the cannon blast that signals the beginning of their 100 mile trek. Racers will make a mad dash to their bikes, get them fired up and finally take off in a drag race across open desert in this infamous sprint to the flags for the chance at the hole-shot. After that its a battle with each other and the desert through relentless channeled scablands that put the riders and their machines to the test over the next several hours to finish 100 miles. The proud racers that do finish will cross the stage as everyone cheers them on. A few will be going for the win but most will be just looking to finish the most challenging race in Washington.
